Interview with C00LED (Episode 2)

Post by Admin on Fri May 30, 2014 12:40 am

After a month of waiting, I've finally released episode 2 of my Interview series.

This time I took the time to interview C00LED, one of the most successful and older American Warcraft Soccer players in the scene.
In this episode he talked about his background, the American/European scene and his thoughts on the state of the game.

- Hello there, C00LED!

- Hi Gado666

- For those who don't know you, could you start off by telling everyone where you are from and a little bit about yourself?

- Hi I'm C00LED and I'm from the good ol' USA.  I like pizza, tits, and soccer.  I spend most of my time either working or playing banjoball nowadays.

- How did you come up with your current nickname "C00LED"?

- Well a long time ago before I played soccer i took the name "cooled" on every server. I forgot the password to the one on europe and I had to think of a better but still similar name.  Theres no explaination of why I liked it, it just seemed to fit me and so the legend of C00LED was born.

- If we go back to the beginning of Warcraft Soccer, there will mostly be information about the European scene. But you were actually playing in an American scene almost at the exact same time as the European scene developed. When did the American scene develop and how did you get involved with it?

- I didnt start playing soccer actively until after the american scene had already been through 1 clan with people today might know as stiches and retromancer.  Not long after that clan dispanded, did I decide to join the new clan, FIFA.  This clan was created around 2005-2006.  I got involved because stiches apparently remembered my name and he personally messaged me to train me.  He never did but I still remember playing games with him  before I was active and even after he messaged me.  For the next couple of years I was playing pub games alongside playing baseball while still being apart of the American Community as I went throught 2 more soccer clans before coming to KICK around 2009.

- When you finally came to Clan KICK which was the most dominant, if not the only clan for the map in Europe, what was your first impressions? And how did you think about the competition in the European scene, in comparison to the American scene? Were there any differences?

- When I first arrived my first game was with weeble and the only thing I learned was that everyone stressed about last man yet no one did it. Another first impression was Wow these kids suck (loljk), but the host abuse was treated much different than it should have been. The level of competition in America was much higher than europe only because the demand for defense was stressed harder in europe because everyone played offense rather than defense.  Which was a complete role reversal for me because I was one of the few offensive players because I couldnt stand defense so I had to learn how to roam the map for a good neutral position(so i could say I was playing defense yet still say i was playing offense).  There were more similarities than anything.  One example is because of the map having a few bugs(major bugs).  For example: Xbugs, bug goals(which were huge, sometimes game ending) heading to random places on map (fuck vmod).  Both communities were very uplifting to be a part of even though their styles might be different.  For what it was worth I kind of prefered playing with KICK for the people.

- As you mentioned, the map has undergone many changes since the beginning and it has become a whole new game than what it once was. How do you like the state of the map right now? Which changes do you like and which do you not like?

- If I'm being completely honest the state of the map is definitely losing its value.  The changes that I've enjoyed the most are ones that arent game changers but are theortically game changing. IE: every change to all the basic moves.  Every button has changed since I started playing.  Pass(Z) has a cooldown. Short Pass(X) 9/10 doesnt bug.  Long pass(C) No longer stops you for 1 whole second.  Header(V) no longer makes you jump slow.  Most of those changes I was okay with because they didnt change the game completely.  Making the keepers harder to score on was a step in the right direction but we stopped that movement too soon.  The changes that did bother me were ones that did change the game.  IE: Vmod, new goal posts, and removing c goals completely. Either we make the game more realistic or we don't.  We can't switch our view based on what makes scoring more/less difficult.  The game didnt destroy the community.  The community destroyed the game.

- The Warcraft Soccer community has existed for many years now and it has changed quite a bit over the past few years. Why do you think the community has held on for so long with the amount of members that are left and why hasn't it died out yet?

- Thats an excellent question! I've wondered about this many times.  Usually when you have a smaller group of members theres more communication than there would be with lets say 50 people.  If I've learned anything for sticking around this game for so long its that the game will only die when every last person gives up on it.

- Looking back at your history with the soccer community, you played in 2 different scenes and several different clans. From when you started, up until now.. Was there ever a player/some players you looked up to, for whatever reason regarding the game/community? If so, why?

- Well when you look up to one person you always look up to them and that person is none other than stiches3000.  He was always my favorite and back when I started he could V it off the ground and that was the best goal ever.

- So to end this interview, I'm going to ask you a hypothetical question.
If there would be an international competition with regions playing against eachother in a format of 4 vs 4 and you were assigned the role of selecting the players to represent your region (North America). Who would you choose to form your all-star North American team, if you could choose any player at their prime who played in the American scene?

- Idk if I can choose stiches since hes mexican so I wont.  I'd choose Rudeboy obviously. Retromancer, and t.barber-21.  Those guys would make an exellent team and I love these kids to death so it'd be a win win situation reguardless of any outcome.  Also apart from rudeboy were all from the origional FIFA and since gado said I need a fourth and I'm obviously the best I pick me.

- Thank you for the interview, C00LED. Best of luck!

- Everyone who reads this Gado is really asian and I have proof!
